The R34 Skyline GT-R went out of production in August 2002 — 24 years ago. This September, Impul, the Nissan tuning house founded by racing legend Kazuyoshi Hoshino, plans to launch a new BNR34-based project called the Impul Skyline GT-R. Impul hasn't yet detailed exactly what buyers will get — a complete tuned car, a parts package, or a customer-car build program — but it has confirmed the car is coming in September.

What Impul has revealed so far
Confirmed from Impul's released images: a bespoke front bumper with a large intercooler visible behind it. Whether that intercooler points to engine tuning is still speculation on our part — Impul hasn't confirmed any mechanical changes, output figures, or pricing yet.
The car underneath
The base car needs no introduction to anyone who grew up with Gran Turismo. The BNR34 pairs the legendary RB26DETT — a 2.6-liter twin-turbo straight-six rated at 280 PS in the gentleman's-agreement era — with a 6-speed manual and the ATTESA E-TS all-wheel-drive system.

Why the timing matters
The timing lines up with a broader trend: exceptional R34s — especially rare limited editions and cars fitted with genuine Impul parts — have sold overseas for more than ten times their original Japanese list price at auction. Meanwhile, more R34s cross the US's 25-year import threshold every year, opening them up to American buyers without the safety-compliance hurdles newer cars face. A tuner-built example from a company with real Nissan motorsport pedigree — Team Impul has run a factory-backed Nissan program in Super GT for decades, including a GT500 title in 2022 — fits neatly into that moment, even if Impul hasn't said the US market specifically factored into its plans.

Price, production numbers, the exact product form (complete car, parts package, or build program), and whether cars will be offered outside Japan all remain unannounced. Impul currently plans to launch the project in September 2026 — we'll follow up when full details drop.
